CANBERRA TODAY:

The National Capital is a dynamic city, subject to continual change. It is evolving and is no way complete. It is a city in in transition.

Undeniably, Burley Griffin’s vision for Canberra was exceptional, if delivered in full it would have been a capital city like no other. Modern, planned, representing the morals and values  of democracy to the residents. But for many reasons his design was not honoured.

Despite this, Canberra today is a vibrant city with a sense of a community, and design features that accentuate the beauty of Australia with vast sweeping views.

From this map we can see the many ways the design of Canberra has evolved over time, responding to criticism, adapting to social change and the lives of its residents.
